Dr. Yvonne Tan, VP Head of Tech Hub Singapore | Volvo Cars
Dr. Yvonne graduated from the University of Western Sydney with a bachelor’s degree in Engineering Management before pursuing a master’s degree in Business IT at the University of Wales. She obtained her Engineering Doctorate while leading as Dyson Engineering Manager overlooking the Motors Design and Mechanical Validation Teams in Singapore and the Philippines.
She began her career in Hewlett Packard in 1995 as a Technical Specialist in Factory Automation and later moved to Spain, where she worked in the R&D of Designjet Test & Product development. She has also worked for STMicroelectronics, Technology Resource Group – Camstar, Venture Corporation, National University of Singapore (NUS) and Dyson in the field of systems analysis, design, MedTech, entrepreneurship, engineering, innovation and technology. Her recent role is setting up a new Tech Hub in Singapore for Volvo Cars. Over her years of work, she has held key engineering positions in Singapore, Malaysia, China, Philippines, Spain, United Kingdom and the US. In 2018, she founded the Dyson-NTU Studio (Nanyang Technological University) in Singapore, which is Dyson’s first on-campus engineering studio in Asia. There, she takes on the role of a guest lecturer for the Product Development Challenge module while providing mentorship to undergraduates.
Outside of her role at Volvo Cars, she also serves as an adjunct associate professor in National University of Singapore, Institute for Engineering Leadership.
During her spare time, Yvonne enjoys getting hands-on with technology, from assembling 3D printers to her most recent home project, installing gapless motorised blinds for her balcony. She is also an active mentor for many budding engineers.
